“Let not your heart be troubled," Jesus Christ told his apostles just before his crucifixion. "Ye believe in God, believe also in me." (John 14:1) We who believe in God, and have made Jesus Christ the Lord of our life, follow his directions and commands. Let not your heart be troubled is a command. It's not something we TRY to do or WISH we could do. It's something we ARE to do.
God makes a way for us to overcome--a heart troubled with doubt, worry, or fear--witha way that passeth all understanding. It takes mental practice and commitment to do this. The result of that way, though, is that you shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus with peace. Trouble comes in many forms. God makes a way for us when we decide to obey the command to “let not our hearts be troubled"... and, when we do the following TO DO list found in Philippians 4:6. I had a teacher who lovingly referred to
this scripture in a catchy slogan: When in a fix, turn to and do Philippians 4:6. Philippians 4:6Be careful (anxious) for nothing; but in EVERYTHING by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. God commands us to not let our hearts be troubled, in any situation, or circumstance. He then provides us with the solution--a list of what to do instead. Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise think on these things. You might say, “well, ok, but NOT when it comes to the bad report the doctor gave me. I can't help but worry." Yes. Even then, you can decide to refuse to worry. You don't deny the facts, but you focus on the Truth because Truth trumps facts. The diagnosis is the FACT but the prognosis is the TRUTH... 1 Peter 2:24 By His stripes you were healed.. The result of refusing to worry, and focusing on your “to do” list is PEACE. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (Phil 4:7) As a reminder, the Philippians 4:8 “to do” list is this: Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise think on these things. And ... the result will be Philippians 4:9: Those things which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do; and the God of peace shall be with you. This kind of peace “passeth understanding,” and it comes by NOT letting your heart be troubled, but by doing your “to do” list every day. God bless you! Love,Shirley
