He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty (Psalm 91:1) New American Standard Bible
Where do you abide right now? Our abode is where we live and spend time for comfort and rest. It is usually a shelter from the elements, the sun, wind, rain, and threatening storms. It is a place where we can hang our hat and generally feel safe.
Have you ever thought what it means to dwell in the shelter of the Most High, and in the shadow of the almighty? God offers protection, hospitality and a beautiful invitation in a personal relationship with HIM to abide in His shadow.
I heard God’s protection invitation explained like this:
A hen in the barnyard has many chicks who play and scurry around the grounds. When danger comes she does not chase after her chicks, she provides shelter as she calls her chicks to come and abide under her outstretched wings.
The chicks who obey her calls run under her wings for protection, but the chicks who decide to not hearken to her calls will go unprotected. She will gather the chicks close by her side and then bring her wings down over them tightly providing protection in a warm, safe environment.
In like manner, we who hearken unto God’s Word and His calls, and abide in His word will dwell in safety. When danger comes, He calls us to the safety of His Word. He does not chase after us like the hen does not chase after her chicks.
We have free will to run to His arms and abide in the shadow of His protection and warm hospitality. If we decide to not hearken to God’s call’s, we, by our choice will remain unprotected, also.
We must actually decide to dwell in the shelter of the Most High and in the shadow of the Almighty. What a beautiful invitation to abide in a personal relationship with HIM to abide in His shadow.
God Bless you! Love,
Shirley
